While many of us are interested only in what the end results of a developers hard work provide for us and seek out XXX VR Content purely for our personal pleasure, it’s interesting to step back for a moment and take an objective look on what exactly goes into giving you that Virtual Blowjob; and how creating such personal experiences as those that target our sexual satisfaction may differ from the development process of standard video game fair.
For one thing, while your average video game may benefit from being realistic, it is certainly not a prerequisite; In fact some of the best VR games out there are anything but.
When it comes to VR Porn however arousal is the key, and it’s hard to get your rocks off if the girl going to town on your virtual penis looks like she has recently had a boob job performed by an oyster (weird mental image, but I think you get the picture), so it is of paramount importance to have both well designed geometry for your 3d models and perhaps even more importantly, smooth animations to bring them to life (having your “partner” jerking around like they’re having a tonic-clonic seizure is about as arousing as the molluscan mammary augmentation; unless of course you’re into that sort of thing); Sort of similar in concept to the “uncanny valley” (in case you haven’t heard of it, here is a description so you can get up to speed), but a little more porny.

The Cap’n was a decent attempt, but things got really wonky when your partners head glitched out and you were getting a blowjob from a contorted zombie having a fit.

Another big issue facing VR Porn developers is keeping within the boundaries of what may be considered “too much” or “too offensive”.  There is definitely a wide range of opinions here and what may be considered kinky to some is instead horribly offensive to others, so it is important for devs to either stay between the lines of what is generally considered soft-core and safe, or risk the possibility of losing out on a large share of potential profits.  This is in my opinion perhaps the most limiting measure against which the emboldened VR Porn planner may find themselves facing, and one which is altered drastically according to a myriad of factors; geographical location, age, upbringing, and personal interest all playing a huge part in what ultimately determines exactly what an individual finds attractive and “acceptable”; and in the end results in the majority of developers choosing to opt-in for the “safer” route, rather than wrangle with the fuss of a suppressed populace and the possible controversy upon which that may entail.

Other than the above there are the issues of drumming up interest and marketing your product to potential investors.  If a VR porn developer does decide to stray away from the all-too-often priggish asseveration of the status quo in favor of a little funk, they can all but kiss their chances of securing any level of reasonable funding goodbye; which further limits the progression of the genre.

So why then would anybody bother?

Well, developing a VR porn app could be a lot of fun for starters, and people are inherently horny creatures with a very wide range of sexual interests and appetites so you can pretty much guarantee that you will have a market, so long as you don’t completely botch the experience; and as I mentioned previously if you stay within the boundaries and keep your creations limited to the common fare and thus avoid stirring up the hornets nest of the more reserved; who knows, you may just have a hit!
Furthermore, while porn games have been around for decades now, there is still little in the way of truly compelling adult experiences available for play; and the Oculus Rift and Virtual Reality give designers and developers an opportunity to showcase their skills and breathe life anew into the adult niche.

Besides, who doesn’t want the chance to be the Al Lowe of Oculus Rift porn?
