Of all things porn related there is one topic that you are nearly guaranteed to find people wary to discuss; you might even say the subject is a bit taboo (yeah I said it). Whether we’re talking about a little kink, a sexy twist, or out and out demented, it would seem the idea of what people consider taboo differs from person to person greatly (as with most things); and curiously enough, Virtual Reality porn seems poised with the power to either further the gap between what our society deems acceptable and what people want to chase down with a burning stick, or bring it closer together. Perhaps even bringing about somewhat of a sexual revolution (VR Hippies ftw?).
Although what we have seen so far from the questionable side of the “still so fresh” VR porn scene (the Custom Maid 3D with Oculus Rift support and the Premium Play Darkness/Tridef combo being the only things currently close that come to mind) seems tame enough, one can assume that it is only a matter of time before the floodgates to the “great porn beyond” are opened; and when we finally do find ourselves confronted by a truly morally questionable virtual sex experience how do you think that will bode for humanity’s psychosexual health, and the developing Virtual Reality pornographic industry in general?
Truth be told I have to say I am a little on the fence with this one. While I believe in freedom of expression and I wholeheartedly embrace a persons right to do what they want to in the privacy of their own home, I’m somewhat concerned and certainly intrigued by how the ability to live out certain fantasies, even the ones that would otherwise be physically impossible, is coming soon to a computer near you (stimulated tentacle rape nearly being a guarantee, Hentai fans need not worry!).
It would seem the experts are on the fence as well, at least concerning the already firmly established realm of non-VR porn; some suggesting that an indiscriminate approach to porn will almost certainly result in an increase in the possibility of sexual offences, while a small minority believes that it could allow those who would otherwise offend, to experience their unique taboo fantasies thus satiating any urges that may have lead to them committing an offence for real.
Regardless of the eventual outcome, It’s this kind of a grey area that allows the garden of things both good and bad to flourish, and unmindful of peoples opinions of such you can almost guarantee that it won’t be long before we see the Virtual Reality scene have it’s legs opening wide to the more “colorful” side of smut; and you can bet it will have a big impact either way.
Its certainly a question that bares some study, even in the face of the bit of discomfort such a topic will inevitably bring, and I am curious to know what others think as well. Do you believe our VR porn experiences should continue unregulated and unrestricted, or do you think we should have a censorship program in place deciding what is deemed safe for people to view and experience?
