One big question comes up when you talk about porn and the Oculus Rift to anyone in the adult entertainment industry – is this (the beginning of) the end of porn stars as we know it? Will the Oculus Rift mean that there’ll never be a need for a live action model again? While we don’t think that the Oculus Rift will be the death nail for porn performers, it may change up the way things are done. For those of you who aren’t too aware on how porn shooting works, typically the models perform anywhere from one to three scenes a day, depending on the actions involved.
Most larger porn studios either shoot multiple videos from different angles of the sex scenes and take the still shots from the video, or have a still photographer shooting at the same time as the video is also being recorded. With the advent of virtual porn – especially for hardware like the Oculus Rift – there is the potential never to need an actual living and breathing porn star again.
Just like in still 3D style porn now, all the “action” takes place in the computer of the animator, without the need for makeup touch ups, shower breaks, or even lunch. Technically, there’s no use for an adult model with this style of pornography. Does this mean that the adult porn star will become an endangered species once the Oculus Rift is released? Not necessarily. We still anticipate that, as is the market today, the desire for “real” porn will be greater than the animated 3D varieties.

You can also bet that the live action adult studios will also be increasing the amount of live shows they do. There are already a number of “party style” websites where there are a number of sex scenes all going in on at the same time. With the Oculus Rift, the user can easily choose which scene he wants to watch, or even virtually interact with. In this case, you still need actual living and breathing porn stars to get in the action. We also see the growth of another style of camming. I dont think pornstars are going anywhere, but there will be different avenues for which they perform.
i think the porn indusrty will be using less pornstars that there are now and using each of them more for getting mocap animation or to get a scene with a very very beautiful pornstar and having her do just one or three shoots of her with a man or women to get that person in the room shot or the first person shot. it will soon be decided on the production budget of doing the scenes and how much detail the production company want to do. it could range from couple of thousands to maybe in the millions of dollars.
It’s certainly interesting to think about just how much the future of sex and porn will be different. Between VR, AR and teledildonics we are almost at the point where we can simulate sex with anybody or anything we can imagine!
