So up until this point we have blogged mainly about Oculus Rift Porn, VR Porn games and various teledildonics; but there is another growing technological marvel slowly emerging from the same pool of immersive wonderment as Virtual Reality which could prove to be just as disruptive: Augmented Reality.
Just to be clear we aren’t talking about the same crappy AR that you tried a few years back on your smartphone; although technically under the same banner, the new Augmented Reality, such as that being created by former Valve employees Rick Johnson and Jeri Ellsworth of Technical Illusions with their CastAR glasses, is more along the lines of seamlessly integrating virtual “holograms” (although they aren’t really, they just appear that way) in with the users real world, allowing the user to experience computer graphics overlaid with the real world. Getting its start from their campaign via the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter; the CastAR team managed to raise just over a million dollars, more than doubling their 400K goal.
I can’t help but think of how awesome such a thing would be for porn.
Imagine being able to chill out at the park or on the beach while watching a 3d sex show without risk of anybody knowing (other than the bulge in your pants or wet spot in the sand); or putting on some glasses and being able to turn your room into a virtual holodeck filled with sexy nymphs dancing about. The possibilities are endless and if that wasn’t enough the CastAR can be turned into Virtual Reality goggles with a simple clip-on attachment. How cool is that?
Now while CastAR isn’t the only Augmented Reality HMD solution currently on the market, with Vuzix touting their $1000 M100 Smart Glasses as a sort of bigger, better google glass; and the $3,650 META SpaceGlasses promising to make you a real life Tony Stark; but while those heavier priced contenders may look the part, it is clear that they are not aimed at the gaming or the casual crowd and with CastAR starter packages coming in at under $200, it’s hard to imagine the other devices becoming household items.
While it is not clear if there are any plans for developers working on adult material to utilize the CastAR device as of the time of this writing, it is clear that Augmented Reality has a definite place in our future alongside it’s VR cousins.

I think many people will be amazed at how fast this technology will improve over the next few years.
The only real barrier to purchase will be cost and this is certainly going to come down. How much these products will integrate into porn related applications will be anyone’s guess however I’m sure the demand will be huge.
Now that Oculus has been purchased by facebook it’s time for others to step up and take the reins.
